Behold, Galactus! Devourer of Worlds. Formerly a mere mortal man named Galan, the cosmic entity developed a craving for planets to sustain his life force. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics, this hangry and godlike supervillain first popped up in Fantastic Four #48. Since then, he’s had his fair share of ominous and foreboding appearances as well as wacky madcap shenanigans. He once ate the infinity gems in Jim Starlin’s Thanos #4 and was devoured by zombies himself in the pages of Ultimate Fantastic Four. In “What if Thanos changed Galactus into a Human Being?”, Thanos called on the power of the Infinity Gauntlet to transform Galactus into an Elvis impersonator. Sent to Earth, he quickly found stardom with the King’s looks and talent. Adam Warlock appeared and offered to return him to his celestial form, Galactus refused, preferring to live out his days as a popular musician. Now Galactus materializes in his most charming form, the Funko Pop! Jumbo Marvel Galactus (Metallic Version) 10″ Vinyl Figure.
Readily available stock and resellers aside, there’s never been a better time to be a collector. All kinds of ridiculous releases that should have otherwise never seen the light of day are plentiful. This is especially true for a wave of titan-sized releases like Super7’s Masters of the Universe Collector’s Choice Snake Mountain or HasLab’s Star Wars The Vintage Collection Jabba’s Sail Barge or the upcoming X-Men Legends Marvel’s Sentinel. While this Galactus is a mere 10” he still falls into that ‘Where would I even put this? Who cares? I’ll take it!’ category. While the head is a little too heavy to effectively utilize the bobble feature and he sports no articulation, he still has a presence and grandeur that makes him a great centerpiece. This Metallic version in particular has a nice sheen that’s reminiscent of Kirby’s iconic depiction of this colossal character. While his scale isn’t as impressive next to the standard 4” Pops, his giant shiny melon remains a wondrous sight to behold. His nearly 5” diameter noggin could even double as the perfect chicken nuggie platter for your next cosmic themed rager.
