Marvel’s Firestar Background

From the animation cells of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1981-1983) comes Angelica Jones, the mutant known as Firestar. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends was originally meant to star Spider-Man, Iceman, and the Human Touch. But, due to legal issues concerning the rights of the Human Torch, a Firestar was born! From her humble beginnings on the animated series, Firestar has since become a part of the mainstream Marvel Universe, making her a bit of a Harley Quinn of Marvel Comics. Her first comic appearance is in Uncanny X-Men #193, and team affiliations with the Hellions, New Warriors, and Avengers followed. If you’ve never watched the campy good time that is Amazing Friends, it’s available for streaming on Disney Plus. It’s not good per se, but perfect in its cornball absurdity. Overall, a great relic of the Marvel of the 1980s.

It’s a bit surreal to see Firestar not only available in the 6” scale, but as a mass-market release. Until now, Firestar was only available as a Toyfare Magazine mail away and as a Marvel Universe 3.75” scale Toys R’ Us exclusive. The biggest surprise is it’s so well executed by hasbro. It’s so exciting to have a Marvel Legends Firestar like this!

Marvel’s Firestar – Flying

This Hasbro Marvel Legends series Avengers Firestar features the standard articulation of most female Legend figures, but sports very neat and detailed paint applications. The flames around the boots and gloves are very sharp and the darker strands of hair on the smiling, cartoon-style head sculpt is a great touch. This figure stays true to her first appearance while updating the look to stand side-by-side with Hasbro’s newest offerings. The hair sculpts are also nicely detailed, slowly approaching Mezco in terms of quality and style. While the flame effects are nothing new, they’ve been solid accessories from the start, so it’s great to have them here. And, hey, how about the best for last? Ms. Lion?!? Are you kidding me? So good! Every cartoon of that era had to have a puppy chum. Hasbro not only did right by the fans to include this legendary doggo but also offered a great visual update for the fourth and most heroic amazing friend.
